JOCHI KHAN - RULER OF DESHT-I-KIPCHAK
Abstract
The article examines the activities of Genghis Khan's eldest son Jochi in the last years of his life. The complexities of Jochi's relationship with his father and brother are analyzed.
Rashid al-Din's information about the Jochi demarche during the Central Asian campaign, which is widely reflected in historiography, is criticized. The details of the Mongol conquest of Desht-i Kipchak are investigated and a version is put forward about the participation of Jochi in the battle of Kalka. Much attention is also paid to the status and position of Jochi in the ruling elite of the Mongol Empire, the legitimacy of applying the khan's title to him. Various versions of Jochi's death are being investigated.
