Abstract. The article deals with two stories contained in “The Secret history of the Mongols", concerning Jochi and his son and the heir Batu. First, the family Council before the beginning of the Mongol-Khorezm war is depicted, at which there was a conflict between Jochi and Chagatai, after which Ogedei was declared the heir of Genghis Khan. Secondly, the story is about a quarrel between Batu on the one hand, and Guyuk, Buri and Harkasun on the other, which arose at a Banquet after the capture of Russia, the Kipchaks and the capital of the Caucasian Alans Magas, after which Guyuk was sent to Ogedei and received a humiliating reprimand from his father. The author of the article comes to the conclusion that both stories were constructed by the author or editor of the source with certain political motives, and a similar technique was used. He took a conflict that had actually occurred and was known among the Mongol elite, and placed it in the right social, political, and chronological context, thus demonstrating the inability of any of the genghis branches, except the Tuluids, to effectively manage the Empire.
